Dermal Filler and Botox

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable gels used to restore volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. Most fillers used today are made from hyaluronic acid (HA) — a substance the body already produces naturally to keep skin hydrated and plump. As we age, natural HA and collagen production slows down, leading to volume loss, hollowing, and the formation of lines and folds. Dermal fillers replace that lost volume, softening the visible signs of aging or simply enhancing features like the lips, cheeks, or jawline. Unlike Botox, which relaxes muscle activity to reduce movement-related wrinkles, fillers work by physically adding structure and volume beneath the skin. Many clinics — including ours — offer both treatments, often combined for a more complete result.

How Dermal Fillers Work

Filler is injected beneath the skin using a fine needle or cannula, directly into the treatment area. The hyaluronic acid gel binds with water in the surrounding tissue, immediately adding volume and a smooth, natural-looking lift. Results are visible right away, with any initial swelling settling within a few days to reveal the final result.Because HA fillers are biodegradable, they're gradually broken down and absorbed by the body over time — which is part of why they're considered a safer, more conservative option than older, permanent filler materials. If a client is ever unhappy with their results, HA filler can also be dissolved early using an enzyme called hyaluronidase.

Key Benefits of Dermal Fillers

Immediate, visible results — volume and contour changes are visible as soon as the treatment is done, with no waiting period to see initial results.Minimal downtime — most people return to normal activities the same day, with only mild swelling or bruising possible for a few days.Customizable and reversible — treatment can be adjusted gradually, syringe by syringe, and HA filler can be dissolved if needed.Natural-looking enhancement — when done conservatively, filler enhances existing features rather than changing the face dramatically.Non-surgical — no incisions, general anesthesia, or extended recovery compared to surgical alternatives like a facelift or rhinoplasty.Long-lasting — depending on the area and product, results typically last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years.Versatile — a single category of treatment can address lips, cheeks, jawline, under-eyes, temples, and fine lines, making it adaptable to many different concerns and goals.

What to Expect During Treatment

A typical filler appointment involves:

  1. A consultation to discuss goals, medical history, and suitable products

  2. Cleansing the treatment area and applying topical numbing cream

  3. Careful injection of the filler using a needle or cannula, with the injector shaping and massaging as needed

  4. A brief recovery period to check symmetry and results

  5. Aftercare guidance (avoiding strenuous exercise, excess heat, and touching the area for the first 24–48 hours)

Most treatments take 30–45 minutes depending on the number of areas addressed.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

  • Dermal fillers are generally suitable for adults who:

  • Are in good general health

  • Want to address volume loss, mild-to-moderate wrinkles, or facial asymmetry

  • Are looking for a non-surgical option with minimal downtime

  • Have realistic expectations about natural-looking enhancement

Filler is typically not recommended for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active skin infection near the treatment site, have a known allergy to the filler ingredients, or have certain autoimmune or bleeding conditions. A proper consultation and medical history review should always precede treatment.

Is It Safe?

When performed by a trained, licensed injector using approved products, dermal fillers have a strong safety record. As with any injectable treatment, temporary side effects like swelling, redness, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site are common and typically resolve within days. Rare but more serious risks (such as vascular occlusion) are part of why choosing an experienced, properly trained injector — and disclosing full medical history — matters.

Aftercare Tips

  • Avoid touching, rubbing, or applying makeup to the treated area for the first 24 hours

  • Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive heat (saunas, hot yoga) for 24–48 hours

  • Apply a cold compress if swelling occurs

  • Avoid other facial treatments (facials, laser, microneedling) in the treated area for about 2 weeks

  • Contact the clinic promptly if you notice unusual pain, discoloration, or skin changes

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do dermal fillers cost in Toronto?

At Skin Fantasy Clinic, dermal filler pricing starts at $349 per syringe, with most treatments using 1–2 syringes depending on the area and your goals. Lip filler, cheek filler, and jawline filler are each priced individually — we'll confirm an exact quote at your free consultation.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Most hyaluronic acid fillers last between 6 and 18 months depending on the treatment area, the product used, and your metabolism. Lip filler tends to last on the shorter end (around 6–9 months), while cheek and jawline filler can last 12–18 months.

Does getting dermal filler hurt?

We apply topical numbing cream before injecting, and most fillers we use also contain lidocaine, which numbs the area as it's injected. Most clients describe the sensation as mild pressure or a brief pinch rather than significant pain.

Is there any downtime after filler?

Little to none. Mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site is common for [1–3] days. Most clients return to normal activities the same day and makeup can typically be applied [24 hours] after treatment.

What's the difference between dermal filler and Botox?

Botox (a neurotoxin) relaxes muscles to soften dynamic wrinkles caused by facial movement, like frown lines or crow's feet. Dermal filler (typically hyaluronic acid) adds volume and structure, used for lips, cheeks, jawline contouring, and filling in static lines or hollow areas. We offer both and can recommend which — or which combination — suits your goals.

What filler brands do you use?

[We use [Juvéderm / Restylane / Revanesse / Stylage] —Health Canada-approved hyaluronic acid fillers.

Who should not get dermal filler?

Filler isn't recommended for anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding, has an active skin infection near the injection site, has a known allergy to hyaluronic acid, or has certain autoimmune conditions. We review your full medical history at your consultation to confirm you're a good candidate.

Are dermal filler results natural-looking?

Yes, when done conservatively. Our approach is to enhance your existing features rather than dramatically change them, using appropriate product amounts and injection technique for a soft, balanced result.

Who performs the injections at Skin Fantasy Clinic?

Dr Mozhgan Peiravi, with 15 years of experience in cosmetic injectables.

Can dermal filler be dissolved or reversed?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase if you're unhappy with results or experience a complication. This is one of the reasons HA filler is considered a safer, more conservative option compared to permanent fillers.

Do you offer a free consultation for fillers?

Yes. We offer a free consultation to assess your goals, go over filler options, and give you an accurate price quote before you commit to treatment.
